Vehicle Ownership Hits Record High
A
merican consumers are holding on
to and driving their cars and trucks
longer than ever before. The average age
of vehicles on U.S. roads is at an all-time
high: 10.8 years as of July 2011.
Many consumers are hesitant to invest
in an expensive automobile purchase
when their current vehicle is performing
well and continuing to meet their
transportation requirements. Factors
driving the increase in ownership cycle
and average vehicle age include consumer
reluctance to take on additional debt
and increased reliability and durability
for vehicles sold in the U.S. In addition to
manufacturer warranties, consumers are
now purchasing longer-term coverage
through vehicle extended service plans.
The manufacturer’s warranty and
long-term vehicle extended service plan

against expensive mechanical and

You’re Ready for Summer!
Is Your Vehicle?
What steps should you take to
ensure that your automobile is ready
for summer driving?
First, make sure that all maintenance
is up to date. Take your vehicle to the
shop, have fluid levels checked and
hoses examined for leaks. This is also
important for the cooling system. Any
leaks in the system should be repaired
to keep the air conditioner cool. If the
air conditioner is not working properly, it should be recharged.
During inspection, the rear brakes should be cleaned and adjusted.
This will prevent front brake wear. If an issue is detected during
the steering or suspension inspection, an alignment must also be
performed. Tire pressure should be at the appropriate level. Tires
should wear properly and have plenty of tread. Tires are considered
legally bald, and must be replaced, if wear bars are visible.
Finally, check the battery. Heat is a battery’s worst enemy. If the
battery registers with a weak charge it should be replaced.
AAA Car Care Plus technicians can check your car from bumper to
bumper at any of our three local shops. Better yet, schedule your
