In Memory of
Robert A. Walters
W
e are saddened to announce to our
AAA membership the death of Robert A.
Walters, President and CEO, who passed away
on March 29, after a long battle with what he
called his “pesky” disease.
Bob joined AAA Northwest Ohio as the President
and CEO in January of 2010. While he was new to
the organization, he was no stranger to northwest
Ohio. Bob grew up, and was very well known, in
Sylvania with his parents, sister and most notably,
his two brothers, which as a group were fondly
referred to as the “Walters Boys.” He attended
Sylvania High School, where he met and would
later marry his high school sweetheart Debbie.
Bob and Debbie later welcomed two beautiful
children, Amanda and Craig.
With some collaboration with his family, Bob
dabbled in a lot of interests and businesses before
spending most of his career as a banker in the
Toledo area. After his involvement with the sale of
a local bank to a larger regional bank, Bob worked
as a sales executive at a local independent
insurance agency. There he was also instrumental
in the strategy and was given responsibility for all
sales management functions.
In a rather unusual fashion, but completely fitting
for Bob, he began his first day at AAA riding along
in one of our tow trucks helping to serve you, our
members. He always believed that customer service
was crucial and wanted to experience firsthand the
situations in which our employees and members
were involved. Customer service was just one of
Bob’s passions and strengths. He believed that
employee education and growth, team building
and leadership development were very important
components of a healthy organization. He brought
forth new ideas in these areas for our Club and
helped us grow in areas like Student Membership,
the remodeling of two of our Branch Offices, our
new AAA.com website, offering a AAA branded
insurance product, the introduction of
AAA Now!
and many more.
Bob continued his employee and member focused
initiatives throughout his three years with our club
and if you visited our Main Office or any of our
locations, you may have found him wandering
through, just chit chatting with employees and
members. If you ever had the opportunity to meet
or work with Bob, you would have noticed his
energy and passion for AAA Northwest Ohio. AAA’s
history and reputation of providing excellent
customer service was a primary focus for Bob and is
the reason he chose to accept the position of
leading our organization.
Externally, Bob was involved in several local
charitable organizations and was especially
interested in working with young people.
Inevitably, there will be a void in our world without
Bob; it will always be a richer place because he was
once in it. Although Bob had a lot of passion for
things like work, volunteering and, of course, golf,
his true passion in life was for his family. Please join
us in offering his wife Debbie, children Amanda and
Craig and all of his family and friends our sincerest
condolences on his passing.
In sadness for his death, but with appreciation for
his life, we remember Bob Walters and his
joyfulness and love. We would like to acknowledge
Bob for all he has done for AAA Northwest Ohio.
Bob, we will all miss you as our leader, motivator
and friend.
