Mystic Seaport
Mystic Seaport is one mile south of
I-95 exit 90 to 75 Greenmanville
Ave., along the Mystic River. Among its 19 acres are more than 50 historic houses, shops, galleries and trade buildings that promote an understanding of life in a seaport during the mid-19th century. The last of the wooden whaling ships, the Charles W. Morgan, the 1882 training ship Joseph Conrad and the fishing schooner L.A. Dunton can be boarded by visitors; many other ships and boats are displayed. Ship models, scrimshaw, figureheads and small boats reveal the history of ships, shipbuilding and maritime activities. A children's museum contains toys, clothing and games that were popular in the 19th century, while a planetarium offers shows. The 1908 steamboat Sabino offers half- hour excursions on the Mystic River. Horse and carriage rides also are offered. Food is available. Time: Allow two hours minimum.

museum hours: Open daily 9 am – 5 pm, April – October; Daily 10 am – 4 pm during november; Thursday – Sunday 10 am – 4 pm, the rest of year. Cruise departs daily on the half-hour 11 am – 4:30 pm (down river cruise at 5:30 pm), mid-May to Columbus Day. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas.
